Sulaiman Alrajhi University, represented by the College of Applied Sciences, organised an interactive awareness event to mark World Food Day under the slogan “Food safety starts from the farm to the table” at Manahel Albukairyah Private and International Schools, targeting more than 200 secondary-stage students and teachers.
The event aimed to raise awareness of food safety, the prevention of food poisoning and the reduction of food waste, as well as to promote a culture of healthy nutrition and the correct reading of nutritional information.
During the event, students of the College of Applied Sciences presented six scientific and interactive stations covering key themes such as food contamination, methods of prevention, the difference between safe and contaminated food, reducing food waste, food allergies, and reading food labels.
The College applied a pre- and post-assessment methodology to measure the impact of the event on the level of awareness. The results showed an overall improvement of 31.5% in the level of knowledge, with awareness rising to 45% in the food allergy theme and to 44.6% in the food label reading theme after the event, reflecting the effectiveness of the interactive educational experience in promoting positive dietary behaviours.
The number of volunteers taking part in delivering the event reached 25 student volunteers, and awareness leaflets and samples of healthy foods were presented within a distinctive educational atmosphere aimed at turning knowledge into practice that contributes to improving dietary lifestyle.
