A university present in its community

Maximising the impact of community and volunteer contributions is one of the University's strategic objectives, led by the Social Responsibility Administration in partnership with the colleges and directorates.

Programmes and initiatives rose from 24 in academic year 1446 AH to 63 programmes and initiatives.

Volunteer hours up 483%

Volunteer hours rose from 3,380 to 19,699 — the largest growth indicator of the year.

Participants up 97%

Participants and volunteers rose from 676 to 1,333.

Participation by administrative staff also rose 130%, and by faculty members 56%.

On World Antimicrobial Resistance Awareness Day, the College of Applied Sciences took the message to children and their families in a public square — in language they understand and an image they remember.

Initiatives

Community initiatives and programmes

Three distinctive initiatives launched during the year: building the capacity of the non-profit sector, empowering University staff and students, and embedding a culture of excellence in community work.

Supporting the non-profit sector

Specialised professional programmes that build the institutional capacity of associations and civil society organisations and strengthen their governance and internal control: the Certified Board Member programme, and the Internal Audit Specialist programme across two cohorts — completed by 47 of 58 participants.

Empowering staff and students

Developing the knowledge and skills needed to design community initiatives, manage them and measure their impact: the Social Responsibility Specialist programme for staff, and the Innovation in Social Responsibility Programmes course for students.

Excellence in community programmes

An initiative encouraging colleges, directorates and individuals to develop initiatives with sustainable impact. The Colleges of Medicine, Nursing and Health Sciences received the Gold Excellence Shield, and four directorates the Silver Excellence Shield.

The excellence initiative covered tracks at college, directorate, individual and programme level.

A national partnership

Hajj volunteering, 1447 AH

In partnership with the Royal Commission for Makkah City and the Holy Sites, a specialised volunteer team from the University took part in field, emergency and operational duties across Makkah and the holy sites — acting as a supporting operational arm in the service of the pilgrims.
