The University, represented by the Facilities Directorate, organised the Saudi Green Initiative exhibition under the patronage of the University President, Dr. Muhammad A. Al-Mohaimeed, to raise awareness of environmental and sustainability initiatives and to highlight the importance of community participation in supporting sustainable development targets and achieving the targets of Vision 2030.
Eng. Mohammed Al-Hajj gave a presentation on the goals and aims of the Saudi Green Initiative, launched by the Crown Prince and Prime Minister, Prince Mohammed bin Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, in March 2021, and on the national framework it represents for strengthening environmental action and contributing to sustainable development.
The exhibition included the release of the University's carbon footprint report, which reflects its efforts to measure and analyse emissions and to work on reducing them within a systematic framework, alongside a review of the Facilities Directorate's contributions to the initiative, which included renewable energy projects, tree-planting initiatives, improving energy efficiency, and a number of efforts linked to the initiative's pillars.
The exhibition also featured an information corner on plants, with an explanation of the plant species suited to the environment of the Kingdom and an introduction to methods of planting wild plant seeds and caring for them.
The exhibition was organised as part of the University's commitment to strengthening environmental awareness, activating its role as a leading educational institution in supporting national initiatives, and contributing to the achievement of sustainability targets at the local and national levels.
The Saudi Green Initiative seeks to mobilise the efforts of various bodies in society to achieve three main goals: reducing emissions, tree planting, and protecting land and nature.
